CRA Digital Transition – Action Required NOW

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has made a significant change to how they deliver tax correspondence. As of June 16, 2025, all CRA correspondence will be delivered online through CRA’s My Account and My Business Account portals instead of traditional mail.

You must have a CRA My Business Account and My Account login portal set up to access critical tax correspondence from now on.

How to Register for My Account:

  1. Go to Register for a CRA account – Canada.ca
  2. Have your Social Insurance Number and recent tax return ready
  3. Select the registration option called CRA User ID and Password 
  4. Follow the step-by-step instructions on screen

This Is Not Optional

CRA will no longer paper mail tax documents to your home or business. You will receive an email notification from CRA (no links to click) letting you know to log in to your CRA online portal to review the mail. Without CRA online access, you will not receive important tax correspondence. This could impact receipt of tax refunds, benefits, and rebates.

Notices of Assessment or Reassessment have a strict 90-day deadline for us to investigate and file objections, where necessary, on your behalf. After 90 days, it becomes much more expensive and significantly less likely to successfully reverse CRA decisions on appeals.

Additionally, CRA processing review letters must be responded to within their specified timeframe (usually 30 days) or CRA will automatically issue a reassessment with additional taxes payable. Missing these notices could be expensive and limit your options.  CRA will not accept that you didn’t have CRA My Account or My Business Account set up so you could not access the online mail as an excuse to be granted extensions or appeal decisions.
